Kara is quite amazing By Dave Merchant [email protected] The Chelsea band has some great musicians and great leadership. Senior Kara Feldkamp along with two others will be the generals on the field of Drum Majors. “This will be my second year in this position,” Kara said “I play the clarinet and saxophone. My favorite band instructor would have to be Mr. Otto.” She said he made band her favorite class and inspired her to go into music education in college. “I am thinking about Western Michigan University, Michigan State University and Central Michigan University for colleges,” she said. “My favorite part of band is becoming a family with 130 other people. We spend most of our month of August in rehearsals and activities with each other. I love watching the bond between people in the band grow.” She added that this means she will dedicate most of her efforts to her band skills, marching band and passion for music. Her advice is sound. “If I had to give one piece of advice to young band students, it would be to stay true to your passion of band and if people try to pull you away, don’t let them,” she said. “There were many times that people tried to tell me that band was useless and I wanted to quit. But I stuck with it and I found my love for music and I would have no idea what I would be doing without it.” Chelsea will have quite an amazing group of Drum Majors and band members this year. Don’t miss them under the Friday Night Lights. Go Bulldogs!
