By Aimee Bingham Osinski [email protected] In spite of forecasts of winter storms, about 90 children all members of The Chelsea Soccer Club, showed up for a youth futsal tournament. Maybe soccer wasn’t really a big sport when you went to school and you have no idea what futsal is. According to wikipedia, Futsal is a variant of soccer played on a smaller hard court, indoors, utilizing a smaller, harder, low bounce ball. According to Mario Zuniga, Director of Coaching for the Chelsea Soccer Club, “ it’s useful for soccer players during the off season, providing winter time practices and tournaments, to practice skills and stay active.” According to Mario, the Chelsea soccer club has been around for about 25 years and currently has 190 members To participate in last weekend’s tournament, a child had to be a member of the Chelsea soccer club. However, February 29th, the Chelsea Soccer Club is hosting another tournament at Chelsea High School open to everyone ages 6-18. 3-6 players per team 3 games guaranteed.
