Kitty & Company will be conducting a series of short interviews with Chelsea Residents for 52 weeks, bringing to light differing personalities and design styles in our community.  Perhaps you will meet someone new through these weekly interviews or perhaps it will be YOU! Stay tuned and follow us each week – we now introduce you to  Mrs. Connie Lucas.

What is your current profession? I have been a bookkeeper for 30 years.
People think of me as: Quiet and shy  but really:  I am quite social.
Your family members: Husband-Bill, Daughter and Son in law-Michelle & Scott, Son and daughter-in law-Bill and Abbe. 5 Wonderful grandkids.
What do you love about where you currently live? Small town community and lots of lakes in the area.
When did you move to Chelsea and where did you live prior to coming to Chelsea? We moved to Chelsea in the 80s....grew up in Ann Arbor.
If you could have a second home anywhere, where would it be?  Somewhere tropical-I would love a beach house.
What three words describe your style? Farmhouse Country, Industrial, Simple.
What are you most inspired by in your design/decor? Nature.
When entering your home, how do you want it to feel? Inviting, cozy, comfortable.
What is one element or trend in design you do not like? Modern.
Have you ever built a new home or remodeled an existing one? We have done some small renovations-a small addition, and other smaller projects.  We hope to build a retirement home someday.
What is the biggest design issue you struggle with? Comfortable living room furniture with a style I like.
Have you stayed true to a style through the years, or have you fluctuated in your tastes?  I've always liked antiques but also like to mix it up. If I like something, I buy it and make it work.
If you were moving and could only select one item from your home to keep, what would it be and why? Our roll top desk in our living room.   It is such a cool piece of furniture.
Which room in your home gets the most use? The kitchen and the family room, for this reason, we would love an open concept!
Name an item you purchased for your home that you regret buying: An Uncomfortable couch and love seat
No room is complete without: a lit candle.
By nature I am :  A Collector.
What had you been doing to pass the time during the COVID-19 State shutdown? I spent time with family, worked in the garden, walked Rosie, our little Boston Terrier, a lot more, took the boat out at our cottage, and generally kept up on the news.
If you were given $1,000 to buy a new piece of art, what would it be? A pencil or ink sketch.
A few of your favorite things!
Movie – I love Diane Keaton-“Something's Gotta Give”-Her lake home in that movie is my dream home!
Favorite Historical Place You have visited - Paris-Eiffel Tower.
Scent- Magnolia.
Music–   Classic Rock-and Oldies.
Meal-  Seafood but I really love a loaded salad.
TV show-  I don't watch much TV but I like HGTV.
Travel Destination (on your bucket list)– Hawaii.
Season-  Love all the seasons but summer is favorite.
Color- Turquoise.
Collectibles – I cannot pick one!  Shells, painted rocks, and handbags!
Museum -  The Louvre.
Hobbies- Hanging with family-Grandkids!
Tree – Evergreen trees-love the smell of pine.
Item on a bookshelf  - Lots of books, maybe a basket.
Dogs or Cats?   DOGS.
Kitty’s note:  Connie and I officially met a few years ago and she has been a big support to me in my business.  She is super patient and kind and is a great listener! (A characteristic in our society that is sorely missing!)  It is evident she has a great love for her family and they are close knit- a special gift now days. They are a small business family! She has her own bookkeeping service and her husband Bill and son Bill Jr. run Lucas Custom Decorating, a local painting company.  I’m sure many of you have used them for your painting projects! Thank you Connie for participating and allowing us an inside glimpse of Lucas life.
