Kitty & Company has been conducting a series of short interviews with Chelsea Residents and will continue to publish them for the period of one year. We have enjoyed learning about the differing personalities and design styles in our community and hope you have as well.   Stay tuned and follow us each week – we look forward to introducing you to more Chelsea Individuals in the future weeks-  it may just  be YOU!  This week we introduce you to Cathy Melton.

What is your profession and how long have you been in this field?
Business Consulting since 1995, real estate since 1999 – I am currently working in real estate with The MORE Group of MI and my personal business consulting company is My Business Advisor, LLC.
Your family members:
Brian (husband), Joe (son), Amanda Daniels (daughter), Ben Daniels (son-in-law), Della (granddaughter) -listed are those who live locally.
People think of me as Quiet but really I am Measured.
When did you move to Chelsea? Where did you live prior to this?
I moved to Chelsea in 2013, prior to that I lived 10 years in Celebration, FL
What do you love about where you currently live?
My family is close by.
If you could have a second home anywhere, where would it be?
The beautiful coastline state of Florida.
What three words describe your style?
Classic, French Country, Elegant.
Who or what do you believe influenced your style the most?
I am influenced by what I like more so than fads or trends.
What is one trend in design you do NOT like?
Contemporary.
As you think about the home in which you grew up, what elements did you like and do you think you have incorporated some of them in your own home?
I enjoyed the coordination of color and comfort that was displayed and I have included these in my own home.
Have you ever built a new home or remodeled an existing one?
Yes, I have done both.
Have you ever sought professional help with the interior design of your home - if so, what did you find most helpful?
No I haven’t.   I use magazines as inspiration and use my own creativity to achieve similar results. However, I have recommended design services to real estate clients.
Which room in your home gets the most use?
Our living room.
If you were moving and could only pick one item from your home to keep, which would it be and why?
My grandmother's "dishes", as these have tremendous sentimental value to me.
No room is complete without:
Pillows.
I tend to be:  a minimalist by nature.
If you are a pet owner, how has that influenced your choices in design, if it has?
Yes, but more architecturally than in interior design choices, such as a fenced in yard with easy access to the fenced area.
Has any local venue particularly caught your eye - if so why?
Not really, but outdoor venues such as the summer festivals are fun.
What are you currently doing to pass the time during the COVID-19 State shutdown?
As a business consultant, I am a problem solver. Since the shutdown, I have turned my problem solving skills into creative artistry. I began challenging myself to create different looks with hair and makeup. I will watch how-to videos to learn how different looks are achieved. I'm having a lot of fun with it because it allows a tremendous amount of creativity, especially considering I don't have costumes or the right makeup on hand.  (Kitty’s note:  follow Cathy on Instagram or FB to see more of her creative flair).
A few of your favorite things!
Movie:
Gone With the Wind.
Historical Place You Have Visited:
Mackinac Island.
Scent:
Vanilla.
Song, Artist or style of Music:
It depends on my current mood. Classic rock and 1940's jazz are two top favorites though.
Food/Meal:
Stir Fry.
Bucket List Travel Destination:
Hawaii.
TV show:
Currently is Outlander.
Things to Collect:
I am not a collector of items.
Color:
Blue.
Favorite Design Style:
French.
Hobbies:
Writing.
Pets?
Dogs.

Kitty’s note:  Cathy and I met at my business open house in 2018.  I am discovering how deep her creativity and business sense run. To that statement, she has recently authored an e-book and was scheduled for a book tour/speaking engagement in Florida in April, called Mindset Reset, which has now been postponed due to the current world situation.  This is a women's empowerment series. I hope to work with Cathy more in the future in our design-real estate relationship.
